Paste Thickeners are designed to help producers significantly reduce or eliminate the need for traditional settling ponds and other tailings storage structures.
Engineered to achieve the highest possible solids concentrations through efficient gravity separation, these systems produce a thickened material known as “paste,” where further separation between water and solids is no longer achievable. Typically, paste material is characterised by a Yield Stress greater than 150 Pa and is transported to impoundment facilities using positive displacement pumps.
By increasing the solids concentration within the paste, producers can dramatically reduce the size, volume, and structural requirements of impoundment facilities — and in some cases eliminate them entirely. The removal of freestanding water and tailings ponds not only improves operational efficiency but also creates a safer working environment while supporting easier compliance with environmental permitting and regulatory requirements.
