Lincom Group: Over three decades of building, expanding, and evolving

Lincom Group began in 1995 with a simple idea to build a business that stands behind its equipment and backs its customers for the long term. What started in Queensland has grown into a trusted provider of industrial equipment solutions across Australia, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands.

30 years of successful growth reflect the early risks taken, the partnerships formed, the sites supported, and the people who have carried the business forward year after year. From our early days in Narangba to a national network of branches and global equipment partnerships, the journey has been driven by practical thinking, careful expansion, and a genuine commitment to standing behind the work we do.

A vision that crossed borders

Before the beginning of Lincom Group, our founder, Roy Watterson, had already built a reputation for strategic thinking and international expansion.

In 1982, Roy left Ireland for Australia to join Finlay, a subsidiary of the Terex Company. Starting as a Sales Manager, he quickly progressed to Managing Director, leading expansion into Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and eventually China. His decision to take Finlay into the Chinese coal market in 1989 marked a defining chapter in his career and demonstrated a willingness to move early, think long-term, and build international relationships.

When Roy founded Lincom Group in 1995, he brought that same global perspective with him, along with a practical understanding of what customers needed on the ground.

The Lincom Group Timeline

1995

The beginning

Lincom Group was established in Bridgeman Downs, Queensland, laying the foundation for what would become a national organisation.

Building the foundations

By 1998, the structure of what Lincom is known for today began to take shape. Powerscreen Australasia Pty Ltd and Lincom Pacific Equipment Pty Ltd were established, and the first Powerscreen machine was delivered into Australia. Land was secured in Narangba for what would become the long-term head office that we are still based out of today.

In 1999, Lincom became the exclusive dealer for Powerscreen across Australia, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands. This milestone marked the beginning of a long-term global partnership that would influence the company’s trajectory.

Expanding capabilities

As demand grew, the business grew with it. In 2000, the Narangba head office was expanded to support the increasing number of customers and projects coming through the doors. This expansion was to ensure the team had the space and resources to keep up with the workload and support customers properly.

By 2006, more customers were looking for recycling and material recovery solutions. In response, Lincom established its Recycling Division. It was a natural next step, allowing the business to better support changing site requirements and offer equipment that reflected where the industry was heading.

2007-2008

Exclusive partnerships and more expansion

The next phase marked significant growth in global partnerships and industry recognition.

In 2007, Lincom became the exclusive dealer for Morbark and was awarded the Powerscreen After Sales Performance Award, recognising the strength of its service, support and customer care.

This momentum continued into 2008, with exclusive dealer agreements secured for Kiverco and Rapid International. That same year, the Ballarat branch opened in Victoria, strengthening Lincom’s presence beyond Queensland and expanding its reach into key regional markets.

The business was also awarded first place in the Powerscreen Balanced Scorecard Awards.

Leadership and reach

In 2010, Lincom was awarded the Morbark Dealer of the Year award. That same year, internal leadership changed hands, with Stephen Watterson stepping into the role of Director and beginning the next phase of leadership.

The Unanderra branch opened in NSW in 2011, and by early 2012, the business expanded into New Zealand, extending its presence beyond Australia.

In 2013, Lincom became the exclusive dealer for Thor Global and was recognised with the Powerscreen Top 12 Global Dealer Scorecard Award, reinforcing its position within the global dealer network.

2015-2019

Strengthening the network

Industry recognition continued through 2015, with the Powerscreen Regional Asia Pacific Award and the Morbark Industrial Top 5 Sales Volume Award.

In 2017, Stephen Watterson became CEO, continuing the family leadership journey while guiding the business into its next chapter. The WA branch relocated to larger premises in Henderson to support growing demand, and Lincom received the Powerscreen Regional Dealer of the Year Award for Australia and Asia.

Exclusive partnerships continued to expand, with Broadbent joining in 2018 and McLanahan in 2019.

2020-2022

Growth and transition

The Hunter Valley branch opened in 2020, followed by the opening of a new Queensland branch in Townsville in 2021. That same year, Lincom was named a finalist in the Bulk Handling Awards for the Thor Towerstacker and was recognised as a Great Place to Work.

The end of 2021 marked the loss of Lincom’s founder and visionary leader, Roy Watterson. Roy left behind a company that only he could have built, and his passion, energy and sense of irreverence continue to guide the organisation today.

In 2022, the company was formally certified as Australian-owned, and the New Zealand business was sold.

Recognition and legacy

Roy Watterson was inducted into the Powerscreen Hall of Fame and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Australian Mining, recognising decades of contribution to the industry.

Lincom was named a finalist in the Moreton Bay Awards for Marketing Excellence. The business once again received the Powerscreen Regional Dealer of the Year Award and maintained its Great Place to Work certification.

Investing in the future

In April 2024, Lincom opened the Technical Institute in Brisbane. Designed as a dual learning environment, it combines classroom-based learning with hands-on workshop training, giving operators and technicians practical experience alongside theoretical knowledge.

The Adelaide branch also opened, and Lincom became the exclusive dealer for Komptech and was named a finalist in the Bulk Handling Supplier of the Year Awards. Stephen Watterson was also recognised as a finalist in the Moreton Bay Awards for Entrepreneur of the Year.

Lincom also received multiple global awards from Powerscreen, including Global Dealer of the Year, Global Leader in Marketing, Regional Dealer of the Year (Australia and Asia) and Global Leader in Training Engagement.
